Picture the electricity grid of the future with Siemens at Energy 21C

Melbourne, 27 August 2009

Siemens global Smart Grid expert Dr Yannick Julliard will present alongside Mr Michael Bielinski, Siemens Executive Manager of Strategic Marketing and Emergent Technologies, at this year’s Energy 21C Conference in Melbourne. Both experts will present a unique technological preview into the future of sustainable and secure energy in Australia.

Dr Julliard and Mr Bielinski will share insights gained from a comprehensive study undertaken by Siemens, the Picture the Future: Outlook Australia – Energy” project, in a panel discussion on Monday 7th September. This research has included collaborative input from some of Australia’s leading research and development institutions.

Participants can also expect detailed discussion of the transmission and distribution technologies of the future, including the potential of smart grid, advanced metering, measurement and monitoring, and HVDC (high voltage direct current). Current and alternative generation sources, including renewables, will also be addressed as integral to the research findings.

Siemens Energy Transmission Service Engineer Mr Jeff Walker will also participate in the Snapshot High Energy Presentations on Tuesday 8th September with papers about benefits of compact switchgear and surge arrestors for high risk transmission lines. Also present at Energy 21C will be new Head of Siemens Energy for Australia and New Zealand, Dr Bertram Ehmann, and Mr Steve Robinson, Siemens Vice President of Energy.

Siemens is the only company in the world with the expertise and technologies to offer efficient, reliable and safe solutions, products and services across the entire energy conversion chain,” said Mr Robinson.

“Our participation in Energy 21C this year is unprecedented, with both global and local experts presenting our key products and future technologies. We will also launch and demonstrate our new medium voltage solution, the Siemens 3AD Vacuum Recloser, and demonstrate our SICAM PAS substation automation unit.

“We are pleased to be conducting a field trip to our Head Office to enable conference delegates to experience the interactive Siemens Innovation Forum, as well as a site visit of the Caulfield Substation, which will be hosted by Jemena. The expansion of this heritage listed substation from 11kV to 66 kV using Siemens highly integrated switchgear is exemplary, and as such, has been nominated under two categories of this year’s Victorian Engineering Excellence Awards.”

Visit Siemens at E21C at stand 66, 67, 86 and 87 to experience our world-leading innovations first-hand, collect further information of interest on USB, take the opportunity to speak with our experts, and also go into the draw to win one of three rally driving experiences.

Energy 21C is considered the premier conference for the transmission and distribution industry. It runs from 6 to 9 September 2009 at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre.
