Siemens has successfully delivered a complete power plant solution for major oil and gas customer Santos, with an excellent safety performance record.
Mr. David Pryke, Siemens Vice President, Energy, explained the significance of the project and this achievement. “The project was undertaken from January to October 2008 and was completed on time and under budget. In addition, we achieved an outstanding result in health and safety, with the project meeting it’s Environmental Health and Safety targets.”
“As a result of our safety performance, Siemens will invest further in developing Occupational Health and Safety initiatives within Siemens.”
Located approximately 1,050 km west of Brisbane in the Cooper/Eromanga Basins, the Jackson Oil Facility dewaters produced oil from surrounding oil fields and then exports the processed oil via pipelines to either Moomba (SA) or Moonie (Qld).
“Jackson acts as a central collection and storage facility for several outlying satellite gathering areas - ensuring an efficient and reliable power supply is critical to the operation of this facility. The contract included an 8 MW industrial gas turbine, an 11 kV outdoor substation and indoor switchboard, and the Balance of Plant,” said Mr. Pryke.
“Our existing relationship with Adelaide Turbomachinery workshop enabled us to mobilise quickly and provide the turnkey solution that met the needs of Santos. The modular design of the equipment enabled quick installation onsite without disruption to overall operations.
“The new high voltage distribution system is both safer and easier to maintain, and provides Santos with a reliable power supply at Jackson that will meet existing and forecast load requirements without having to limit oil production. It has also increased the capacity of the distribution system for development of the Jackson field.”
