Siemens continues to build its local transportation portfolio with the announcement of a $28 million contract as part of the New Metro Rail project in Perth, Western Australia.
Siemens Transportation Systems will supply the overhead electrification and traction power for the 70 kilometre $1.4 billion rail project.
Partnering with O’Donnell Griffin, this new contract to engineer and supply the overhead contact lines and traction power for the 70 kilometre Perth to Mandurah extension represents the first move by Siemens into the area of rail electrification infrastructure in Australia.
The O’Donnell Griffin Project Manager, Andrew McGlade, said Siemens was the obvious choice for the Perth to Mandurah project.
"Siemens is world renowned and has a strong reputation - why wouldn't you go with them,” said Mr McGlade.
“They were the obvious choice because you don't get the same level of service, professionalism and project guarantee anywhere else - we are very pleased to have Siemens on board with this project and look forward to working together."
Siemens Executive General Manager Transportation Systems, Paul Bennett, said Siemens is building a diverse transport portfolio in Australia.
“This break-through $28 million contract for Siemens in Perth complements recent successes with the supply and maintenance of rolling stock in Melbourne and managing rail communications in Sydney,” said Mr Bennett.
