The unprecedented generosity shown to victims of the Asian tsunami continues with employees from Siemens in Australia and New Zealand contributing to a $96,142 cheque presented to UNICEF.
The trans-national workforce of 3,251 Siemens employees donated $48,071 which was matched dollar-for-dollar by the Australian-based corporation.
Siemens Chairman & Managing Director, Albert Goller, said the donation to UNICEF forms one part of what will be a long-term commitment to the regions affected by the tsunami.
“While donor-fatigue has been talked about, Siemens is pleased to be firmly focussed on continuing the long-term rebuilding effort throughout the Asian region affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami,” said Mr Goller.
Initially, Siemens was focussed on the provision of practical solutions on the ground in devastated areas with Sydney-based Siemens subsidiary, Memcor, directly contributing to the global Siemens response through the assembly and delivery of mobile water purification equipment to Thailand.
“Each and every employee at Siemens has been keen to contribute in some way to the tsunami effort and raising $48,071 by a relatively small workforce is an outstanding effort,” said Mr Goller.
“We are very pleased to present the total donation to UNICEF, an organisation with which Siemens has been developing a global partnership.
“The funds donated to UNICEF will assist with the ongoing efforts to improve the health, education facilities and security of children and orphans in the worst affected areas.”
