Innovation insight: Siemens ACUSON SC2000™ on show at APCDE 17-19 May

Melbourne, 13 May 2009

Siemens offers a unique insight into the latest world-leading innovation in cardiovascular ultrasound technology, the ACUSON SC2000, while on show at the biennial Asia Pacific Congress of Doppler Echocardiography in Brisbane this week.

Conference guests have the opportunity to experience the ACUSON SC2000 first-hand with live demonstrations by Siemens cardiac ultrasound specialists, available to discuss the technology and advantages it offers in clinical applications.

The ACUSON SC2000 was launched in Australia in March. It is the world’s first cardiac ultrasound system to acquire instantaneous, three dimensional (3D) full volume images of the heart in a single heartbeat.

It provides:

  • Unparalleled capabilities in information rate processing, acquiring full volume, high resolution, real time 3D images of the entire heart, with 90 degree pyramids
  • Advanced imaging for patients with irregular heart beats, such as people suffering from atrial fibrillation
  • Non-invasive imaging, which is particularly beneficial for patients with coronary heart disease
  • Vastly more information than other systems, combining Siemens unique Coherent Volume Formation technology with the system’s high-volume, high speed acquisition rate
  • Improved productivity with increased patient throughput, and
  • Helps prevent work-related stress injuries through the strict ergonomic standards applied to the design.

Mr Nick Kapsimallis, Siemens National Sales Manager for Ultrasound, will be presenting the ACUSON SC2000 at the Siemens exhibition booth. He described some of the clinical advantages of this world-leading innovation.

“The ability of the ACUSON SC2000 to image the entire heart in a single heart beat in real-time is a capability unmatched by any other imaging modality.  It also enables a shorter examination period for patients while providing an unparalleled wealth of information previously unavailable to the echocardiographer, including volume imaging of blood flow within the heart,” said Mr Kapsimallis.

“With the ACUSON SC2000, patients with coronary artery disease, the most common heart disease in Australia and New Zealand, will benefit from the additional information that can now be obtained. Additionally, this innovation opens up the potential for patients with irregular heartbeats to also benefit from volume assessment.”

The ACUSON SC2000 represents the greatest advancement in ultrasound technology since the introduction of 2D imaging in the late ’70s. It comes 55 years after echocardiography pioneers Inge Edler and Hellmuth Hertz acquired the world’s first cardiac ultrasound recording using Siemens technology in 1953.

Experience this world-leading cardiac ultrasound innovation from 17-19 May at stand one, Plaza Terrace Room, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
