Our worldwide program Caring Hands is a special charity program that helps people in need, when they need it most. It covers a wide scope of activities including volunteering, disaster relief, social sponsorship and donation of funds for good causes. We create partnerships with non-profit organisations and use our technology to provide fast reconstruction assistance when disaster strikes.
In these tragic events, we provide practical assistance in the form of water purification, power transmission and medical equipment to assist in immediate disaster relief as well as rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
Recent activities include the support of a Kenyan community in need of water purification. We also assisted with power transmission and the provision of medical equipment to assist in immediate disaster relief after the 2004 Asian Tsunami Disaster and the 2005 Pakistan Earthquake.
Safe Water Kiosk – Obambo-Kadenge Village in Kenya, Africa
Within the scope of the Siemens Caring Hands Program and in collaboration with Skyjuice Foundation, Siemens provided a Safe Water Kiosk in Obambo-Kadenge Village in West Kenya to provide clean drinking water to the whole community. The aim was to improve the living conditions and quality of life in rural Kenya through tangible water, sanitation and community initiatives.
The project scope included Memcor/Siemens water filtration units that produce sustainable clean drinking water. The filtration units are very low cost which make them the ideal solution to ensure a sustainable water source is affordable even to the poorest countries in the world.
Due to the great impact of this solution to the Obambo-Kadenge Village, this project won the 2007 Siemens Global Corporate Responsibility Award. The team was awarded a total of AUD$75,000 which they donated to the Skyjuice Foundation for future projects.
Disaster Relief
Our global presence enables us to respond quickly to disasters at a local level through the Siemens Disaster Relief Program. Our projects provide assistance in the aftermath of catastrophic events wherever they occur.
The offered help can be in the form of our infrastructure-related products or donations, as in 2005 when $96,142 was raised for victims of the Asian Tsunami.
